Mr. Kofi Annan
The Secretary-General of the United Nations
Subject: Petition against an order for destruction of Buddha statues by Taliban in Afghanistan
Dear Mr. Annan,
We feel deep sorrow to have known that Taliban ordered to destroy Buddha statues in Afghanistan, which was reported in the news the other day.
Bamiyan is a precious Buddhist site, which was constructed by ancient people with their whole heart, and has been kept by people with a great care. This is priceless cultural heritage not only to Buddhist but also to the people all over the world. We believe that it is unforgivable for this precious site to be smashed by a specific religion, by specific people.
We now live in the world, in which all the people and all religions should live and let live. Here in this world, we can never accept such a deed like this.
We now, representing the Japanese Buddhists' will, request your cooperation for Bamiyan to get out of this crisis.
Yours sincerely
